If like me you recently become a gardener/human-digger, DIY-er or painter and if you are trying to keep a bored and shouty toddler quiet so you or someone in your home can work or you are just simply tired and stressed with a whole new set of rules to follow wherever you go I invite you for a massage to take some of that stress away from your shoulders.

If you are nervous about booking an appointment read this update to help me reassure you, I will do everything I possibly can to keep you safe and relaxed at my treatment.

The advantage of my industry, over many others, is that because I do work in close proximity to my clients I have covered training in health & safety requirements and infection control. Good hygiene practices always have been and always will be a natural part of all treatments I offer. Recently I have updated my risk assessment, completed extra training and added extra precautions to ensure I am following the Welsh Government’s guidance for my industry.  I am self-employed and my business is small, so it is easier to keep clean and maintain social distancing.  I am the one conducting risk assessments and the one responsible for cleaning and disinfection, and the only one using the room so it is easier to make sure everything is clean and safe for you.

Naturally few things will have to change. I won't be able to accommodate as many clients as before because I need longer gaps to ensure all necessary cleaning and disinfection is complete before each appointment. At the moment I can only offer 5pm and 7 pm and occasionally 1pm appointments Monday to Friday and 10am and 12.00noon on Saturdays.

W H A T   TO    E X P E C T :

  • I have to assist NHS Test and Trace service by keeping a temporary record of my clients for 21 days, which means record names, contact details and date of treatments for all clients. This could help contain clusters or outbreaks of the COVID-19.
  • I have reviewed my cancellation policy in line with new health considerations (i.e. not penalising clients who are sick). If you are unwell and postpone your appointment I will not charge you a cancellation fee. Of course, this review is for the safety of us all and it is built on trust. If I feel that someone is overusing health as an excuse to miss several appointments I will stop booking that person as my time is more precious than ever now.
  • I will wear a clean uniform for every appointment.
  • My hands always were and will be jewellery free with short nails and with no nail varnish on them to minimize risk further.
  • The doorbell, antibac gel pump, phone, credit card machine, massage bed, any equipment used (cupping) or touched, door handles, light switches, touch points on any shelving, toilet flush, hand wash basins, taps, soap dispenser, toilets will be cleaned and disinfected after every use with appropriate disinfectant/cleaner.
  • All blankets and towels are washed in a min. 60 degrees wash with additional antibac solution.
  • The sofa will be covered with a blanket which will be changed after every appointment.
  • I will frequently wash my hands using antibacterial soap and nail brush immediately before treatment (following NHS Guidelines), during a treatment (when required) and after each client, before putting on and after removing PPE equipment & cleaning equipment and environment.
  • According to recent government guidance I will wear a visor and when necessary (neck treatment) a mask - but hopefully that will change soon.
  • I will check my body temperature daily and will respectfully ask you to check yours before we proceed with the appointment.
  • I will open all doors for you to avoid unnecessary touching door handles.
  • Toilet will be cleaned before and after each appointment and paper towels and antibac wipes will be available there to use.
  • I will steam mop floor surfaces on the end of the day.
  • I will not massage the face or hands until further notice.

  • COVID-19 related screening questions will be asked of ahead of, or at the time of booking, your appointment, including:
    • Are you in clinically extremely vulnerable to COVID-19 group and been advise by NHS to shield yourself? (list of conditions below)
    • Have you had the recent onset of a new continuous cough?
    • Do you have a high temperature?
    • Have you noticed a loss of, or change in, normal sense of taste or smell?
    • Have you been around anyone exhibiting these symptoms within the past 14 days?
    • Are you living with anyone who is sick or quarantined?
    • Have you traveled recently and where was this to?
  • If possible please take a shower immediately before appointment
  • You will be asked to use hand sanitizer gel as you enter the premises
  • Please attend on your own, where possible with as little personal property as possible e.g. leave handbags, scarfs, jewellery etc at home.
  • If you wear face coverings I will encourage you to bring your own, but single-use face masks will be available.
  • Please bring your own bottle of water to avoid unnecessary contact.
  • There may be updates required for your consultation form.
  • At the end of your treatment, I will ask you to strip the bed and place blankets in a laundry basket in a plastic bag, tied with a double knot.
  • Please pay with bank transfer or card payment, if possible.

Great news! I am back to work to from Monday 27/07/2020. How exciting :) Our government finally issued a date for my industry. I will fully follow guidance and safety procedures to make sure your treatment will be safe and relaxing experience to both of us.  I am taking booking now for that time. I will update you furthermore soon. Edyta

I hope you are all keeping healthy and well in these strange times. And, I hope you had time to slow down a little and use this time to do things you enjoy and spend it with your closest family.  Following the government and my insurance advice, my business is unfortunately temporarily CLOSED . I am aiming to open as soon as I am allowed. Our First Minister, Mark Drakeford, has announced that on 9 July, the Welsh government will consider a range of specific options for opening ‘personal care services’, but there is no date in mind when sport massage therapists might be able to open. I will update you here as soon as I have any more information, but the expectation is it will be some time in August. In the meantime I am busy planning how to safely come back to the best job in the world. I am taking yours, and my wellbeing and safety very seriously, so I am updating my risk assessment in detail to make sure I can continue to work in a relaxed but safe atmosphere for both you and me.

I have attended two online courses about prevention of spreading COVID-19, one of which was a certified and accredited qualification by the Federation of Holistic Therapies (FHT). I am also in the process of completing a 'Mental Health and Wellbeing' course to be able support my clients more and help us face the situation; we all struggled with lockdown one way or another.

I have also UPDATED my massage bed for a state of art, top-of-the-range table with extra thick 6.5cms high density multi-layered foam, covered with Super soft SKIN-TOUCHTM luxurious PU upholstery. It has a super comfortable, extendable and adjustable head support with face cushion (12cms thick foam) and armrest. This professional grade table is designed to be wider in the client's shoulder and foot area to offer them maximum comfort. I simply cannot wait to use it!

I will keep you updated, stay safe and I will look forward to seeing you soon. Edyta
